Obituary for Betty (Wright) Glanvill

Betty (Wright) Glanvill of Ogdensburg, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February
5, 2024. She is survived by her husband of six years Pete Glanvill. She leaves behind three daughters,
Andrea Stump and her husband Eric of Millbury, Heather Wright-Craft of Shrewsbury, Kimberly Elder
and her husband Jason of Northbridge, two step daughters Kerry Wright of Sanford, North Carolina and
Kelly Glanvill of Conyers, Georgia. She is also survived by her brother William Patterson of Ogdensburg
as well as a niece Pamela Smith of Canton, NY and nephew Sean Patterson of Heuvelton, NY.
Betty leaves behind her nine grandchildren whom she adored: Amanda and her husband Justin, Susan
and her wife Tessla, Brenden, Kae, Dakota, Zachary, Emily, Elizabeth and Jessika. She also leaves behind
two great-grandchildren, Claire and Dominic as well as many lifelong friends. Betty was born in Ogdensburg, NY on January 23, 1951 to the late Herbert and Lula Patterson. She graduated from the Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1970 and moved to Massachusetts with her previous husband Benjamin Wright in 1977. After settling in Grafton, MA, Betty opened a family home daycare and provided care to countless children throughout the years. She worked as a part time secretary for the Town of Grafton for various commissions before becoming the Recreation Director the position from which she retired from in 2015 after 30 years of service in the town she cherished. Grafton residents who have taken part in any number of events through the years have gotten to witness Betty’s creativity and her true love for her community. From Grafton Celebrates the Holidays, to the scarecrow building contest, the Grafton Gazebo Road Race, kid’s fun run, summer concerts on the common, the amazing turkey challenge, summer day camps and programs, the skate park, or the snack bar and programs at Silver Lake Beach Betty was instrumental in all their foundation.

In her spare time Betty loved to do crafts and ceramics. She loved creating things for the church fairs both at the North Grafton United Methodist Church prior to its closing and most recently at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg. She enjoyed traveling in the RV to watch NASCAR races with her husband and enjoyed family dinners with her children and grandchildren. She loved vacationing in Maine and talked often about the trip of a lifetime she took to Alaska. However, the hobby she loved the most was SHOPPING!

All are welcome to gather with Betty’s family and friends Monday, February 12 from 10am to 1pm with a service immediately following at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. In lieu of flowers please honor Betty by making a donation to support the free lunch program at the First Presbyterian Church 423 Ford Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
